WOODLAND, Maine – A Woodland teen who is probably Aroostook County’s youngest accredited welder is sure for a nationwide abilities opposition in Georgia.

When Caribou Superior Faculty junior Jesse Taggett was just 10 decades old, he started off pursuing his father, Rick Taggett, about his welding shop. Watching his dad fabricate all the things from snowmobiles to farm devices, he caught the spark himself.

Father and son will head to the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Techniques Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, in June, representing the Caribou Technological know-how Center. But whereas some of his peers began welding in faculty courses, Jesse, now 17, has been racking up national certifications since he was 12. At first he just needed to expend extra time with his dad, but wound up making a foundation in the trade.
