Nobody is stopping Trent Williams from actively playing. Except, maybe, himself.
The 49ers’ All-Professional remaining tackle admitted to reporters on Tuesday pursuing obligatory minicamp at Levi’s Stadium that he should really not have played through an ankle injuries in the NFC Championship Match towards the Los Angeles Rams.
“I genuinely had no business out there,” Williams instructed reporters. “It truly is so tough for me not to be out there, understanding the posture we ended up in and what we ended up making an attempt to accomplish. But wanting again on it, I almost certainly shouldn’t have pushed it that far. I consider [Colton McKivitz] would have did a superior career on two healthy ankles than I could have did on one particular.” (h/t 49ers Webzone)
“And hindsight is 20/20, of training course. But it was challenging for me to convey to my teammates no at the time, but seeking back again on it, I imagine I in all probability pushed it a little as well far.”
After sustaining an ankle harm in the win over the Environmentally friendly Bay Packers at Lambeau Area in the divisional round game, Williams finished up staying a game-time selection the following week in the NFC title recreation versus the Rams.
Pursuing the match, Williams even admitted that his ankle was in “negative form.”
There only are a handful of offensive linemen who can match up very well from Rams All-Professional defensive lineman Aaron Donald and Williams unquestionably is one of them.
In hindsight, however, the 49ers may have been far better off with a more healthy alternative.
